Answer
The proposed Glengormley Town Centre Environmental Improvement Scheme is a high priority project for Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council and my Department. An Outline Business Case from Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has been received by my Department and is under consideration.
However, there is a key interdependency for the proposed Scheme with the route of the Belfast Rapid Transport 2 (BRT2) project. The Department for Infrastructure is currently considering the feasibility of the BRT2 route going through Glengormley and until a decision is taken my Department cannot commit to funding the Glengormley Town Centre Environmental Improvement Scheme.
My officials will continue to work closely with Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council and monitor the outcome of the decision-making process for the route of BRT2.
Any final decision on the Environmental Improvement Scheme for Glengormley town centre will be dependent upon departmental budget availability.
