Answer
The Department considers external site areas to be of critical importance for a school, particularly in the education of children in an urban setting. Outside space is seen as an integral part of the school and an extension of the classroom and provides the opportunity for a school to satisfy the Department’s policy on Biodiversity.
Currently there are no plans to increase green space provision in Northern Ireland’s school estate.
