Answer
There are no on-site catering facilities in any buildings used by my Department or its arm’s length body, therefore food waste is generated from any excess food brought into the building by staff.
In accordance with the Food Waste Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015, food waste is collected separately to other waste streams. Compostable bin liners are used to collect food waste which allows it to be processed by the contractor to create a biomethane fuel for vehicles and bio-fertilizer which is supplied to local farms for use in food production.
