Answer
Transatlantic connectivity is a key priority given its importance for tourism, trade and investment. The Programme for Government includes a commitment to work with the British Government on the potential for US pre‑clearance facilities here, although this is dependent on regular transatlantic services first being in place. I met with Belfast International Airport’s senior leaders earlier this year to discuss ambitions in this area, and my officials continue to engage with stakeholders.
Additionally, Tourism Ireland in partnership with our local airports, are attending multiple route development events in 2026. My officials are also currently analysing responses to the recent aviation policy consultation, which includes plans for a route development scheme to help secure new routes and maintain essential connectivity.
