Answer

I have not had discussions with the UK Government or the EU regarding the EU’s proposed Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

The UK Government is following the EU’s debate on possible designs with interest and will assess potential measures as they become clearer.

The UK Government recognises the importance of addressing the risk of carbon leakage and set out in HM Treasury’s Interim Report of The Net Zero Review (December 2020) a range of approaches, including Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanisms, which could address this.
