Answer

The draft Environment Strategy was issued for public consultation on 11 November 2021 with a closing date of 18 January 2022. The draft Strategy includes my proposal to increase the maximum Fixed Penalty Notice for littering offences to £200.

It will not be possible to pass the necessary legislation in the remaining Assembly mandate, but it is DAERA’s intention to do so early in the next Assembly mandate.
