Answer

I have not had any direct discussions with my UK counterparts on the restoration of nature for a green economy ahead of the UN Biodiversity Conference.

However, I am aware of the forthcoming UN Conference of the Parties conference on biodiversity later this year and the work relating to the targets and indicators being currently discussed at official level. I have agreed that a new Biodiversity Strategy to 2032 be developed to assist achieve these targets where relevant. Of particular importance is the target relating to protecting 30% of our terrestrial and marine environment for biodiversity by 2030.

This is a challenging target, one which will require the support of key organisations across government, local landowners, marine users and others who have influence in matters affecting our natural environment.
