To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs what assessment he has made of the impact the cost of living crisis is having on the number of family pets being given to animal rescue and rehoming organisations.

I am aware of the significant financial pressures households may encounter due to the increased cost of living and the potential for this to impact on the number of family pets given to animal rescue and rehoming organisations.

My Department has regular engagement with animal welfare organisations and local councils. This will ensure that it keeps abreast of any animal welfare issues that may arise because of the cost-of-living crisis.
