Road surface defects, including potholes are managed through the Department’s Maintenance Management System which records the total number of defects and the number outstanding for each Section Office area.
The data is regularly published through the OpenDataNI portal at https://www.opendatani.gov.uk/dataset/surface-defects.
Official Statistics on the condition of our roads are also now published through the Northern Ireland Road Network and Condition Statistics. The 2022-23 publication (the first such publication) can be found at https://datavis.nisra.gov.uk/infrastructure/northern-ireland-road-network-and-condition-statistics-2223.html.
