Answer

COP29 made progress in securing increased climate finance for developing countries and finalising a carbon market agreement. However, the conference also highlighted the challenges and complexities of global climate action. Urgent steps are still needed to contribute to meeting the Paris Agreement temperature goal and address the growing importance of adaptation. In the face of these global challenges, we continue to lead by example through our net zero commitments within the Climate Change Act (NI) 2022. The transition to a net zero economy offers valuable opportunities for the creation of good jobs while achieving regional balance and increasing productivity. 30% of EU economic growth in 2023 was tied to the net-zero economy and it is important that we make the most of those opportunities while ensuring a just transition for all. My officials will be paying close attention to the outcomes of COP30.
