Answer

My Department’s partner consultant, Amey, were commissioned in September 2021 to undertake a feasibility study into flooding within the Glenavy catchment. The feasibility study which was completed in October 2023 assessed the flood risk within the entire Glenavy catchment, identifying areas at risk and potential remedial options to alleviate the flooding. The study recommended installing a new roughing screen in the Glenavy River, providing enhanced protection to four properties within Chestnut Glen. These flood alleviation works are now complete and there are no other outstanding actions from the report.

The feasibility study also identified that all the properties in Chestnut Grange had a high level of existing flood protection, in excess of the 100 year target flood event (plus climate change allowance) standard. Therefore, there were no remedial measures recommended for Chestnut Grange.
