Answer
In response to the latest UK Climate Change Risk Assessment, which identified risks associated with high heat to public health, infrastructure, water supply, agriculture, energy supply and the natural environment, the Third Northern Ireland Climate Adaptation Programme (NICCAP3) includes a range of actions to strengthen resilience to these impacts.
These actions include measures to reduce overheating risks in buildings, strengthen the resilience of transport and water infrastructure, improve preparedness for wildfires and support climate-resilient agricultural systems. NICCAP3 also promotes nature-based solutions, including peatland restoration, improved soil management and woodland expansion, which can help reduce the impacts of extreme heat while delivering wider environmental and climate resilience benefits.
