Answer
In July 2021 my Department carried out a preliminary assessment of a proposal to upgrade the existing footway at Dublin Road, Antrim south of Balloo Manor. Although this proposal did not score highly enough to warrant a more detailed assessment at the time, my Department will be further exploring the potential for provision of a cycle route on Dublin Road, in particular between Chapel Roundabout and Belmont Road.
My Department is also developing an Active Travel Delivery Plan that includes a full update of our design guidance for active travel and active travel network plans for the largest towns and cities in the North, including Antrim.
We are aiming to consult on draft proposals for the Active Travel Delivery Plan later this year. Once adopted, the plan will provide our teams with a firm basis for the prioritisation of active travel investment within our towns and cities for the next ten years and beyond.
